 DISCOVERY

Understanding the problem

The Challenge or Problem Statement

  • Going to the mall or shops may have very long ques

  • People may be at work or busy and can’t physically go to the store

  • The average American works 9-5 Monday-Friday which are the times many retail shops are open

  • You may go to the store just to find out the product is not there

Potential Solutions

  • Having a platform that users to choose their local retail shop to order from with same-day delivery

  • The quicker the user wants their product it will cost them a priority delivery cost

  • Having a section that shows discounted products local retailers are offering would be ideal

  • This app would have live updates of availability of products in stock

User Interviews

I interviewed users to learn about the following:

  • How often, why, when, and how they shop at retail stores

  • How often do they shop online vs instore

  • How they discover good deals going on

  • Areas they think competitors can improve in

From the user interviews, we found that users:

  • Prefer shopping online than going in store

  • Shipping is costly and takes minimum 2-3 days

  • Ques at the retail shops can have long waits

  • Often times you go to the shop and the item out of stock

 DEFINITION

Summarising the UX Research into Actionable Insights

Persona

  • To make sure I was using a user centered approach, I gathered my research to give me a good understanding of my users

  • Creating personas helps me step out of my comfort zone and recognize that different people have different needs and expectations

  • When creating a persona I realized how important and useful it is to conduct a thorough user interviews to distinguish how users behave, how they think and what they want to accomplish

  • I was able to develop 2 Personas based on the research and user interviews

Competitive Analysis

  • This process consisted me of conducting research of were our product stands compared to our competitors

  • It gave me a better insight of the strengths and weakness of our competitors

  • Finding out who dominates the market and why they are successful is always a good research apprach

  • Apart of this process is also analyzing competitors designs, features, target audience and reviews

Journey Map

  • The first steps that were really important for the user was to realize’s they need a product then become aware and discover a company that offers it

  • When analyzing this journey map of a customers looking for a product its important to understand their interactions and decision they make

  • By creating this journey map the goal was to try to best understand the customer touchpoints and pain points that came along the way

  • There isn’t a perfect journey map but my goal was to try to best understand the customers experience and find ways to improve their experience

User Flow

  • Understanding the user journey at a high level made it easier for me to create an effective user flow

  • The main goal I was trying to achieve was to create a visual illustration of the steps users would go through

  • This app has offers stores, brand, products user can choose from which can lead to many alternative paths

  • Presenting the flow of your product to project managers or stakeholders is an important step to obtain feedback

DESIGN

Solving the user problems with an MVP

DESIGN

Low-Fidelity Wireframes

  • This was very useful in the early stages of my product development as it focus mainly on the functionality

  • It’s main goal is to simply communicate the content, layout and flow

  • Excludes colors and logos and uses shapes to image place holders to show

  • Creating low fidelity allowed me to get feedback from stakeholders on how to improve the flow and functions before I proceed

Hi-Fidelity Wireframes

  • After multiple drafts of low fidelity wireframes and obtaining feedback, I started the process of creating hi fidelity wireframes

  • As shown in the hi-fi wireframes below they include colors, images and icons

  • High-fidelity wireframes make it much easier to evaluate a product’s overall design and UX

  • After the completion of hi-fidelity and approval by stakeholders, product is ready to be engineered

DELIVERY

Validation that the problems are solved based on the original value proposition

Conclusion

When starting this project the biggest question was how do we differentiate our product/services against our competitors. The more research that our team is conducting, the better understanding we have on how we can improve or add services that our competitors don’t have. With the research and findings our team gathered, we created the current wireframes which we are using as our guide. So far we have made tremendous progress but still many questions to answer.

Usability Test

I had a few user run tests to see how efficient my product was.

-Selecting a Store -Checking out of car

-Category of the Product -Choosing delivery time

-Add product to cart -Add payment method
